Before I start to tell you about the ongoing venture that my life has taken with acne I think it would be best if I introduced myself to you. My name is Michael; I am what I think you would consider your “average teenager” if such a thing is possible. How many women feel the urgency to lose a few pounds to get into that special little black dress for that special occasion? Unfortunately, too many of these women starve themselves for days in order to fit comfortably into a particular outfit. Within a short time, these same women report that they have gained back those pounds plus several more. Other ways that men and women alike try to trim down are the use of diet shakes, sporadic bursts of inordinate amounts of hours of exercise, or some diet they have read about or seen on television. Although these methods may prove successful on a short term basis, millions of obese citizens demonstrate the fact that there is no long term weight loss with these activities. Fad diets are doomed from the start! After the person loses the desired weight, or some of those undesired pounds, motivation wanes and soon the man or woman gains back that weight.

Regrettably, most people end up weighing more than they did before they started the diet. Most people don’t live alone far from other humans, so they end up wanting to eat “normal food” and shakes get boring. Hunger is not only physical, but is also an emotional and social experience. Men and women both talk about the desire for “comfort food”. Watching others in your home or on your job eating “normal food” generates the desire to join in. When we say that we are starving, it isn’t true. Unless you live in a third world country, or are living way below the poverty line, you probably have never actually experienced true hunger. Most of us are so spoiled and can find something to eat any time of the day or night, either at home or at the corner fast food joint. What we lack is self-discipline and true awareness of how much food energy our bodies actually require to function properly.
